Construction

In Fall 2001, the Maryland Department of the Environment, in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources, and Charles Soil Conservation District completed the first phase to restore this previously drained forest land into wetland.

Status

This site has developed into an exceptional wetland system.  Using the newly developed Mitigation Site Scoring Method, MDE gave this site the high score of 96/100. This site had some invasive plant species, but still provides excellent wetland functions including filtering sediment/pollutants, furnishing organic matter to the aquatic food web, and reducing floodwater flow. It also provides vernal pool and fish pool habitat. This site is located on public property and is open to the public.
