The Lower Monocacy River watershed (basin code 02140302) was identified on the State’s 1996 list of water quality limited segments (WQLSs) as impaired by nutrients and suspended sediments. The list acknowledged that only a portion of the watershed might be impaired, and that with additional information, the spatial boundaries of the impairment could be refined. Lake Linganore is an impoundment located within the Lower Monocacy River watershed near the City of Frederick in Frederick County, Maryland. Upon consideration of additional water quality data, Lake Linganore was determined to be impaired by sediments and nutrients, with phosphorus determined to be the limiting nutrient. The document available below establishes Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for the nutrient phosphorus and sediments entering Lake Linganore. The nutrient and sediment impairments within other parts of the Lower Monocacy River watershed will be addressed at a later date.
