Final TMDLs Approved by EPA: Wicomico River

The Wicomico River, located in Charles and St. Mary's Counties, has two restricted shellfish havesting areas.  Charleston Creek located on the south side of the Wicomico and Chaptico Bay located on the north side of the Wicomico both drain to the Lower Wicomico River.

The Wicomico River (basin number 02140106) was first identified on the 1996 303(d) list submitted to EPA by Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) as impaired by nutrients, sediments and fecal coliform, and listings of biological impacts in non-tidal portions added in 2002.  On the draft 2004 303(d) List, specific restricted shellfish harvesting areas were identified. The document available below establishes TMDLs of fecal coliform for two restricted shellfish harvesting areas in the Wicomico River Basin: Charleston Creek and Chaptico Bay.  The nutrient, sediment and biological impairments will be addressed at a future date.
