Final TMDLs Approved by EPA: Other West Chesapeake Bay Drainage

Other West Chesapeake Bay Drainages Basin (basin number 02131005) was first identified on the 1996 303(d) List submitted to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) as impaired by nutrients and sediments in the tidal portion, with listings of fecal coliform impairments added in 1998, and evidence of biological impacts in the non-tidal areas added in 2002.  On the 2004 303(d) List, the fecal coliform impairment was clarified with the identification of specific restricted shellfish harvesting area within the basin.  This document addresses the fecal coliform impairment listings area identified:  Tracy and Rockhold Creeks.  The nutrient, sediment, and biological impairments will be addressed at a future date.

The Other West Chesapeake Bay Drainage is part of Lower Western Shore tributary.  The Lower Western Shore tributary drains approximately 270 miles of land, including portions of Anne Arundel and Calvert Counties on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.  Large water bodies in the tributary include the Magothy, Severn, South, West and Rhode Rivers.  The Other West Chesapeake Bay Drainage basin is located in the lower part of this tributary and has no major rivers.  A single restricted shellfish harvesting area in the other West Chesapeake Bay Drainages basin is addressed in the report available below: Tracy and Rockhold Creeks.  These creeks are located on Maryland’s Western Shore in Anne Arundel County, MD.  Tracy and Rockhold Creeks are approximately five km in length, flow to the south, and are located in the basin identified as other West Chesapeake Bay Drainages.  Tracy and Rockhold Creeks have a drainage area of 106.1 acres (0.4 km2).  Both Creeks are relatively narrow with widths of about 150 to 250 m.
