Baltimore Harbor is a tidal estuary located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, just south of Back River. Baltimore Harbor lies in the Patapsco watershed (02130903). Smaller tributaries feeding the Harbor are the Gwynns Falls (upper Middle Branch of the Harbor), Jones Falls (Northwest Branch of Baltimore Harbor), Bear Creek, and Curtis Creek.
Chlordane, a pesticide no longer authorized for use in the United States, has been detected in certain Baltimore Harbor fish tissues at levels requiring issuance of a fish consumption advisory. This advisory has been in place since February 5, 1986. As a consequence of impairment by chlordane, the Baltimore Harbor was identified as a WQLS on the 1998 additions to Maryland’s 303(d) list. The documents below establish a TMDL for chlordane for the Baltimore Harbor. A nutrient TMDL was completed in 2006 for the Baltimore Harbor.
