Press Release

ANNAPOLIS, MD (December 6, 2002) – Governor Parris N. Glendening announced Board of Public Works approval this week of a $100,000 grant for the Town of Rising Sun (Cecil County) to make repairs to its aging sewage infrastructure.

“This project is necessary to reduce possible health related hazards associated with deteriorating sanitary sewer lines and groundwater contamination,” said Governor Glendening.

The project involves replacing approximately 4,500 feet of existing sewer line in conjunction with a state road reconstruction project along Main Street.

“The Town of Rising Sun is grateful for the financial assistance provided by the State,” said Mayor Sallie B. Teague. “As with many small towns and communities, financing major infrastructure projects can create hardship on the community. Rising Sun appreciates the foresight of the State of Maryland in recognizing the need to assist with the modernization of local infrastructure.”

The total cost of the project is $880,000 of which the majority will be financed through a loan from the Maryland Department of the Environment’s Water Quality Revolving Loan Fund.
