Governor’s Press Release

ANNAPOLIS, MD (May 13, 1998) -- A project to reduce stormwater to Broad Creek watershed from the Heritage Office Complex in Anne Arundel County soon will receive a financial boost thanks to Board of Public Works approval today of a State grant for $115,000.

"The construction of stormwater management areas will allow vegetation to absorb critical nutrients and pollutants from the runoff," said Governor Parris N. Glendening. "We must continue to work together to improve the quality of our waterways and protect the Chesapeake Bay."

In addition to the State grant, the County will contribute $45,000. Construction began in March 1998 and will be complete this month.

"This project will provide water quality enhancement of stormwater runoffs from Heritage Office Complex parking areas, located in Anne Arundel County," said County Chief Administrative Officer Thomas C. Andrews. "The improved water quality will in turn protect, restore and enhance living resources habitat in the Broad Creek watershed and ultimately in South River."

Chaired by Governor Glendening, the Board of Public Works also is comprised of Comptroller Louis L. Goldstein and Treasurer Richard N. Dixon. The Board is empowered by the General Assembly to approve construction and consultant contracts, equipment purchases, property transactions and other procurement actions.
