MDE FY 2011 Annual Enforcement and Compliance Report Shows Increase in Inspections with Decrease in Staff

MDE’s 15th annual Enforcement and Compliance Report shows that 52,561 sites were inspected between July 2010 and June 2011, nearly 16 percent higher than in the prior 12 months. This increase occurred even as inspector staff levels decreased by approximately six percent and is due to a concerted effort to increase our efficiency.

MDE regularly reviews and tracks its inspection and enforcement activities using the “MDEStat” management process to ensure the best possible compliance with Maryland’s environmental laws and regulations.
